The Art of Katie Deveau
Story of An Artist
My name is Katie Deveau and I have had an avid interest in art since childhood. I began to seriously pursue it in high school when I started private lessons in watercolors. I attended Ball State University, graduating in 2009 with a BFA in Fine Arts, specializing in Watermedia. My preferred subject matter tends to be composite creatures, painted in bright and vibrant colors that physically suggest ominous undertones by bodily placement and pose. Animal symbolism plays a heavy part in my works as well as creatures having reoccurring meanings across multiple works. I use titles and words to lend better understanding to otherwise ambiguous and cheerful looking paintings. While primarily working in watercolor, I do employ acrylics, gold leaf, and other water soluble materials to create my images. My goal has long been to make visually pleasing, thought provoking, multi-layered comments on the world and society that are accessible to everyone.
Well look around. Art. You know, it seems to me there’s so much more to the world than the average eye’s allowed to see. I believe, if you look hard, there are more wonders in this universe than you could ever have dreamed of."
